The 30 Most Instagrammable Places In And Around Louisville

Being “Instagrammable” doesn’t just mean being a great selfie spot, though many such places are. Of course, many of the most Instagrammable venues have particularly trendy decor — greenery walls, neon lettering, gel lights, etc. — but some of them just make for cool photos in general.

We’ve put together this list of the 30 most Instagrammable places in and around Louisville. While you may be disheartened not to see especially photogenic events like Wild Lights at the Zoo or Beyond Van Gogh, we created this list to be (more or less) as evergreen as the plant walls at our favorite local IG-ready spots.

This list is unranked. If we missed anything, let us know at [email protected]

 Churchill Downs
700 Central Avenue
Everyone knows you don’t go to the Derby just to see the horse races — you go to see and be seen, to dress up in once-a-year(ish) outfits and take photos in them, or have someone else take photos of you instead. But Churchill Downs is also open throughout the year, so if you miss The Big Day, you still have plenty of other opportunities for Instagram shots.

Sen?ora Arepa
721 E Market St.
One of LEO’s staff members describes the Señora Arepa porch as “magical” and “a tropical paradise” that is “simply gorgeous and definitely a place built not only for enjoyment but with selfies for the ‘Gram in mind. There are walls covered in leaves with neon signage and other Instagram-ready photo corners.” They also serve Venezuelan arepas, empanadas, pepitos, cocktails, juices, and more.

 Hip-Hop Sweet Shop
1805 West Jefferson Street, Suite 2
There’s an abundance of photo-ready decor at the aptly named Hip Hop Sweet Shop — vinyl records, graffiti art of famous rappers’ names, magazine covers, and more. Plus, of course, there are desserts of all kinds, which are named for celebrated hip-hop artists and songs. Check out, for example, the Ludacris lemon cake shake and the G-Unit banana pudding cookie.

 Speed Art Museum
2035 South 3rd Street
Don’t just observe the art. Prove that you are the art. Or just appreciate it on its own without selfies; that’s cool, too. There’s an interactive psychedelic digital piece in the Art Sparks exhibit that makes for especially cool shots.

Guacamole Modern Mexican
900 E. Market St.
We’ve said it since the beginning: this restaurant was made for Instagram. There are IG opportunities absolutely everywhere, from the blue butterflies on a bright orange backdrop by the door to the neon “TACOS & CHILL” sign to the life-size alebrije wings to, no kidding, the women’s bathroom — it literally features a red velvet throne surrounded by flowers. (Check out more photos of the space here.) The food, too, is a bright and colorful feast for the eyes.

 I Love Tacos
9099 Taylorsville Road, 1534 Bardstown Road, 3550 Springhurst Commons Drive
This local chain is a hit for its food (we particularly recommend the quesadilla birria), but the bright colors and lit-up greenery wall at each location also lend themselves to cute Instagram shots.

 Angles Selfie Museum
111 W Washington Street, Suite 201
We talk about places with other functions — restaurants, shops, etc. — being made for Instagram, but like, this business and its themed rooms were literally made for Instagram (and all other social media platforms, too, of course.) Bring a phone camera or a professional camera — or even a professional photographer — and get all the best angles!

 Purrfect Day Cat Cafe
1741 Bardstown Road
Adorable and adoptable cats are the stars at this cafe, where you pay for a timed session to interact with the cats in their “lounge” while you enjoy a drink. The venue also hosts yoga, trivia nights, and other events, and the outdoor “catio” has a classic, photo-ready greenery-and-words wall. And, of course, Instagram loves cats.

 Lakeside Swim Club
2010 Trevilian Way
This massive swim club, which got a feature in Sports Illustrated in 2021, was built from a former limestone quarry. It features multiple large pools (hence the name) and plenty of space to show off your tan, well, lakeside — or in photos.

 Idlewild Butterfly Farm
1100 Logan Street
You might be surprised to see a butterfly farm just a stone’s throw from Logan Street Market, but it’s there, and it’s adorable. They’ve got plenty of other insects, too, not just butterflies, and they do a lot of work related to entomological education. But as far as Instagram is concerned: you can tour their “Insectarium” and the enclosed “flight house” garden (by appointment only.)

 Lynn Family Stadium
350 Adams Street
The large 3D letters outside Lynn Family Stadium say “OUR C_TY” — the conspicuous missing “I” is a human-sized blank space for fans to take photos in. If you’d rather take Instagram shots inside the stadium, go on a LouCity or Racing Louisville game night and wear plenty of purple.

 8UP Elevated Drinkery & Kitchen

This higher-end rooftop restaurant rises above the rest — literally, because it’s eight floors up and offers great (and selfie-worthy) views of the downtown skyline. Go during the golden hour for an especially gorgeous photo opportunity.

 21c Museum Hotel
700 W Main Street
Jack Harlow has a track named, in part, after this hotel and contemporary art museum, though the song doesn’t go into detail about the exhibits and artworks that people love taking photos of — for instance, Portia Munson’s “The Garden,” a static explosion of flowers and textiles. If you don’t go inside, you can always, uh, hang out with the gigantic gold sculpture of David outside.
