On Wednesday night, LouCity fell to its former Dirty River Derby rivals FC Cincinnati in a 1-0 loss in the 85th minute.
The teams faced off at Cincinnati's TQL Stadium as part of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, a single-elimination tournament that involves qualified American soccer teams from multiple leagues. LouCity, a USL team, had not played a regular-season match against FC Cincinnati, a former USL team turned Major League Soccer team, since 2019.
Despite the loss, LouCity had more possession and more shots on goal than FC Cincinnati.
“Really encouraging performance from the group,” said LouCity coach Danny Cruz after the game. “We created a ton of chances — certainly missed chances that we need to finish. But I know for a fact that my guys left everything on the field.”
