Breonna’s Garden, the AR experience, is coming to Louisville just in time for the birthday weekend of Breonna Taylor.
On Saturday, June 4, Roots 101 will be hosting the first opportunity for visitors to step inside Breonna’s Garden in Louisville through the magic of augmented reality. According to a press release, theRoots 101 exhibit will extend the entire month to give community members a chance to experience the garden for themselves.
Through augmented reality, Breonna’s Garden AR Experience honors the life of Taylor, who was killed by the LMPD during a botched raid on March 13, 2020, which led to international protests.
The AR experience was created by artist Lady Pheønix, who upon hearing that Taylor’s sister, Ju’Niyah Palmer was receiving death threats while grieving and sharing her memories of her sister on Instagram. Lady Pheønix felt it was imperative for Palmer and the community who was also grieving to have somewhere safe to process those emotions. The exhibit will also include a real garden filled with Taylor’s favorite blooms.
Breonna’s Garden AR Experience has been to Tribeca Film Festival, The Perez Museum in Miami, The Augmented World Expo where it won the Best Societal Impact Award, and most recently at South By Southwest (SXSW).
